Cypress – Affordable Housing in Downtown Unveiled


As part of an initiative to boost affordable housing options in downtown San Diego, Cypress has recently opened its doors. The 63-unit housing facility, developed by Affirmed Housing and financed by the San Diego Housing Commission and its partners, opens just as the San Diego city council is holding special hearings to address possible solutions to the high cost of housing.

Incorporating Educational Uses in Mixed-Use Projects


Design Principal Michael Johnson, AIA, NCARB, spoke to GlobeSt.com regarding incorporating educational uses in mixed-use projects – specifically the recent groundbreaking of the Park + Market project which includes a 66,000 s.f. creative office space operated by UC San Diego Extension.  UC San Diego Urban, as dubbed by the university, will feature technological exhibits, lectures, forums, performance space and artwork.

Park + Market Groundbreaking


Park & Market, the 562,000-square-foot mixed-use development in San Diego’s East Village neighborhood, broke ground on the project in a public ceremony.  The $275 million development combines residential, office, retail and a University of California-San Diego campus extension, at a site just five blocks from Petco Park baseball stadium.
