Gordon Carrier is a founding member and Design Principal of the San Diego-based architecture firm, Carrier Johnson + CULTURE. Under his direction, the firm has established an impressive track record of award-winning projects in both the public and private market sectors. In addition to his design leadership within the firm, he is an active member of the San Diego design and development community. Through his professional associations as well as professional practice, he is an outspoken proponent for improving the urban environment by the integration of quality architecture and design.
As a designer with a vision for cities, Mr. Carrier explores the relationship between structures and public space, weaving building innovation into urban environments. He has played a key role in the revitalization of San Diego — one of the most significant and sustained urban redevelopments currently underway in the United States. In the heart of San Diego’s downtown, his designs can be seen in the lively Gaslamp Quarter, the stylish Little Italy neighborhood and the emerging East Village District.
Mr. Carrier believes in the future of cities as centers of creativity, art and social expression. At a time when scarcity of resources and changing lifestyles are spawning a reinvestment in the city center, he is focused on new thinking and design methodologies that result in active buildings and environments. From interactive retail destinations and high-rise towers to pedestrian-oriented campuses and civic centers, Mr. Carrier designs these places around the lives of the users.
