Michael Johnson is a founding member and design principal of the San Diego-based architecture firm, Carrier Johnson + CULTURE. Under his leadership, the firm has developed a national and international reputation for providing design solutions with lasting civic and social value. His sense of civic pride and stewardship is a cornerstone of his leadership approach and design sensibility.
Recent and current projects under Michael’s direction include downtown San Diego’s 655 Broadway Tower, Renaissance Condominiums, Treo@Kettner Condominiums, Bridgeworks Hilton Gaslamp Hotel, and the Hard Rock Hotel Complex. His work also includes a new residential tower in Seattle, and the mixed-use Hoyt Street Yards in Portland, Oregon’s Pearl District.
In addition to his role at Carrier Johnson, Michael actively participates in the community in both design and leadership roles. As Chairman of the San Diego Downtown Partnership, he sits on the organization’s Executive, Membership and Urban Design Committees. He is also on the board of the New School of Architecture, past president of the San Diego Chapter for the American Institute of Architects and has served on the Long-Range Planning Committee and the Urban Design Task Force for the AIA California Council as a member of the Executive Committee.
