Two Carrier Johnson + CULTURE projects – Point Loma Nazarene University

The Point Loma Nazarene University Science Complex received the top honors in its category, winning the Grand Award Honors for Best Education Project. The PLNU Science Complex encompasses two buildings connected by exterior walkways that house 36,000 s.f. of classroom and advanced teaching lab spaces. Perched atop a sloped hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the science complex – dedicated as Sator Hall and Latter Hall – maximizes orientation to the east/west to create view corridors and includes an arced metal feature wall that protects the glass-faced learning spaces from the heat of the sun. Circulation is externalized to also take advantage of the natural setting, dramatic views and comfortable weather. PLNU’s new Science Complex provides a contemporary environment with state-of-the-art systems to maintain the growth and success of the University’s science program.
